API Certificate
Lubricating technology needs to be accomplished and put inside the ring of American Petroleum Institute (API). The API EOLCS is designed to define, certify, and monitor engine oil performance that vehicle and engine manufacturers and the oil and additive industries deem necessary for satisfactory equipment life and performance. The system includes a formal license agreement executed by the marketer with API. The program’s Marks are intended to help the consumer identify products that have satisfied the requirements for licensing and certification.

The system includes an audit process to verify that licensed products in the marketplace comply with the terms of the API Licensing Agreement. As a manufacturer, reaching the API status is extraordinary achievement by having License Number 2206 this year. Engine oils licensed to use the API Service Symbol and/or the API Certification Mark must be engine tested using the latest edition of the ACC Petroleum Additives Panel Product Approval Code of Practice (ACC Code). The ACC Code requires advance registration of all engine tests along with criteria for handling results from multiple tests on an oil formulation to improve the measurement of the oil’s performance. Material updates to the ACC Code will be distributed to ILSAC, EMA, and API sufficiently in advance of formal publication to permit consideration of any comments the three stakeholders may have. Adherence to the ACC Code as a requirement for the API EOLCS will be periodically reviewed for continued suitability and enhancement.

NMMA
The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Certification programs cover many marine products. From boats and trailers to components, NMMA holds these certified products to the highest industry standards. NMMA certification also includes marine oils to help boatersrecognize lubricants that will maintain their boat engine’s designed performance.

NMMA Certified TC-W3 Oils
TC-W3® lubricant, an NMMA-owned trademark, has evolved over the years through much testing and research, and has proven to be the level of quality needed to satisfy the above objectives. And, going a step further, now that two-stroke engines have moved towards higher cylinder temperatures and compressions, this type of lubricant also helps to meet the EPA emissions reductions.
TC-W3® oils have demonstrated the necessary lubrication performance quality needed for these more demanding cylinder/engine conditions.
The TC-W3® oil standard is a performance-based qualification program. The requirements include various bench tests for fluidity, miscibility, rust, compatibility, etc., as well as engine tests to evaluate the prevention of ring sticking and carbon buildup on pistons and other engine parts. The engine tests include one Johnson 40 hp and two consecutive Mercury 15 hp tests, all of which are run under severe conditions for 100 hours each. Two additional engine tests are also conducted to ensure a high level of lubricity performance. The testing process is comprehensive and expensive, but worth the outcome for consumers and manufacturers.
Once lubricants have demonstrated the necessary lubrication performance qualities needed for TC-W3® certification testing by NMMA-approved laboratories, NMMA licenses those two-stroke lubricants to be marketed to the public. TC-W3® oils are licensed around the world and are recommended for use by two-stroke engine manufacturers.
